How marketplace currency purchases usually work
On a digital marketplace, independent sellers list currency offers. You pick an offer, pay the marketplace (not the seller directly), and the seller delivers in game, usually through a trade or a meeting point arranged in chat.
The marketplace holds your payment in escrow until you confirm delivery or a dispute window ends. That escrow is the main protection a marketplace offers compared with trading in random Discord servers.
What Grinding Gear Games' terms say
The Path of Exile Terms of Use (last updated October 2024 when we checked) say virtual items are licensed to you rather than owned, require you to keep your password confidential, and allow trading with other players only for personal, non-commercial purposes using the in-game trading mechanisms.
The text we read does not spell out third-party currency sales in detail, and the studio has discussed real-money trading separately on its forums, so check its current terms and posts before you buy.
How official in-game trading works
Grinding Gear Games described an asynchronous trade system in a forum post dated August 26, 2025. Sellers list items in a Merchant's Tab, buyers pay a Gold cost to complete the purchase, and sellers pay nothing to list. Earnings are collected in the game, and if several buyers try at once, the first to complete the trade gets the item.
The same post says currency items cannot be traded through this system, that it is not available in Solo Self-Found leagues, and that it was not on consoles at launch. Details may have changed since then, so check the current in-game rules.
Because that system does not move currency items, a currency delivery from a marketplace seller generally has to happen by another in-game method, such as a direct trade. Ask the seller exactly how and when delivery will happen before you pay.
Checklist before you pay
Confirm the league, realm and platform match your character. Wrong-league currency is the most common honest mistake.
Read the delivery method and delivery time in the offer. Prefer offers that describe the exact steps.
Compare the unit price against several offers. A price far below the rest is a warning sign, not a bargain.
Keep all communication inside the marketplace chat so it can be reviewed if something goes wrong.
During and after delivery
Record your screen during the trade if you can. Confirm the exact amount received before marking the order complete.
Do not release or confirm the order until you have checked the amount in your own inventory or stash.
Never share your account password, email access or authenticator codes with a seller. Legitimate currency delivery does not require them.
Currency items, not just gold
Path of Exile style economies use currency items, often called orbs, as the main trade currency. Make sure the listing names the exact item and quantity you want, because similar names can be worth very different amounts.
Prices move with patches and league starts, so compare live offers instead of trusting an old guide or screenshot.
Check league, mode and platform
Confirm the league or mode and the platform in the listing match your character. Wrong-league currency is the most common honest mistake, and sellers cannot move it for you afterwards.
A safer order, step by step
1. Compare several offers for the same currency and quantity.
2. Read the delivery method and ask the seller to confirm league, platform and how the trade will happen.
3. Pay through the marketplace and keep every message in the order chat.
4. Complete the trade as described, screen recording if you can, and check the exact amount in your stash.
5. Confirm the order only after you have verified the quantity.
Risks to understand
- Real-money trading may be restricted by the game's terms of service. Read the publisher's current rules; enforcement can include item removal or account action.
- Currency obtained from compromised accounts can be reversed or flagged. Smaller, staged purchases reduce your exposure.
- Prices move quickly after patches and league starts. Check live offers instead of trusting old screenshots or guides.

Is it safe to buy Path of Exile 2 currency?
No purchase is risk free. Using escrow, keeping chat on platform and never sharing account credentials reduces the risk, but you should also read the game's terms of service.
Do I need to give the seller my password?
No. Currency is delivered in game by trade. A request for your password or login codes is a scam signal.
What should I do if the seller does not deliver?
Do not confirm the order. Open a dispute through the marketplace with your evidence, such as chat history and screen recordings.
Why do the same currency names have different prices?
Because prices depend on the league, the quantity and how fast delivery is. Always compare offers for the exact same item and amount.
What if I bought for the wrong league?
Tell the seller straight away in the order chat and do not confirm. Wrong-league orders are hard to fix, so check before paying.
Is delivery by trade safe?
It is lower risk than any method needing your login, because the seller never has access to your account.
