What escrow does
With an escrow marketplace, your payment goes to the platform first and is released to the seller after delivery is confirmed or a dispute window ends. In an informal deal there is no such middle step, so the seller or buyer simply has to be trusted.
Common scam patterns
Pressure to pay first through a method that cannot be reversed.
Requests to move off platform to finish the deal.
Sellers who ask for your password, email access or authenticator code.
Fake support accounts that message you after you post a question publicly.
What escrow does not do
Escrow does not make a purchase risk free. It does not change a game's terms of service, and it cannot help if you hand over credentials or release the order before checking delivery.
Risks to understand
- Impersonation of marketplace staff is common. Staff will not ask for your password.
- Off-platform deals leave you without dispute protection.
- Terms-of-service restrictions on item trading still apply wherever you buy.

Is Discord trading always a scam?
No, but it offers no built-in protection, so the risk is on you.
Does escrow guarantee my money back?
No. Disputes are reviewed, and outcomes depend on the evidence and the marketplace's rules.
What is the easiest rule to follow?
Pay and chat only inside the marketplace, and never share credentials.
