Prepaid vouchers such as Paysafecard are bought online as a code and spent later. They are popular because they need no bank details, which is also why scammers target them. This guide covers the checks that matter.

Check country and currency
Prepaid vouchers are issued for specific countries and currencies, and not every merchant accepts every one. Confirm your country and where you plan to spend it before buying.
What paysafecard says about PINs
Paysafecard's own security pages say to give your 16-digit PIN only to authorised online shops, never to pass it on by email or phone, and to treat it with as much care as cash. Paysafecard says it will never ask you for a PIN by email, telephone or text message.
Its list of known scams includes fake system-update pop-ups that demand payment with a PIN, and callers who claim a prize that needs a fee paid in PINs. Treat any such request as fraud.
How delivery works
The code or PIN is shown in the order page after purchase. Keep it private and use it only on the merchant checkout you intended.
The scam to remember
Anyone who asks you to pay a bill, fine, deposit or fee with a prepaid voucher code is almost certainly a scammer. Legitimate payments do not ask for voucher PINs by message or phone.
Risks to understand
- A voucher code is like cash. Anyone who sees it can spend it.
- Codes for the wrong country may not work.
- Never send a voucher PIN to anyone who contacts you.

Is Paysafecard safe to buy from a marketplace?
Use escrow, check the country, and redeem soon after delivery. The main risk afterwards is someone tricking you into sharing the PIN.
Can I get a refund on a used code?
Generally no. Once a code is spent it cannot be recovered, so only enter it where you intend to pay.
Why would someone ask me to pay with a voucher?
Because vouchers are hard to trace. Treat any such request as a scam.
